🌪️ Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins Quietly
The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season officially started on June 1st. Interestingly, for the fourth consecutive year, it began without a named storm. However, both NOAA and Colorado State University predict a slightly above-average season, with NOAA forecasting 13 to 19 named storms between June 1 and November 30, compared to the average of 14 storms per year from 1991–2020. Warmer ocean temperatures are contributing to more storms, as more heat means more energy to fuel activity. New York PostNPR+1New York Post+1
🌌 Northern Lights Visible Farther South Than Usual
A powerful G4-level geomagnetic storm has made the aurora borealis visible much farther south than usual. Early Sunday, people in states like New Mexico, Wyoming, and even parts of the Mid-Atlantic reported seeing the northern lights. If the storm continues at a severe level, the aurora could be seen as far south as Alabama. MySANPR+3The Washington Post+3MySA+3
